CS2's 2025 Map Pool Update: Train Returns as Vertigo Exits - Is It Really That Bad?
Counter-Strike's 2025 competitive map pool has undergone a significant change with Train replacing Vertigo. While this change has sparked debate within the community, the current situation deserves a balanced analysis.
The current map pool consists of:
- Mirage
- Dust2
- Anubis
- Ancient
- Inferno
- Nuke
- Train

The newly added Train version has received mixed reactions. While historically a fan-favorite map, its current iteration features significant changes, including a redesigned Popdog area and simplified A-site dynamics, potentially reducing tactical depth.

Despite concerns, five maps (Mirage, Ancient, Nuke, Dust2, and Inferno) consistently deliver high-quality competitive gameplay. Train, though needing refinement, represents an improvement over Vertigo, which was consistently the least-played map in professional competition.
While some community members advocate for the return of classic maps like Overpass, Cobblestone, or Cache, newer options like Thera or Mills could offer fresh competitive experiences.

Looking ahead to the 2025 season:
- Professional teams have had time to prepare for Train since its announcement at the Major
- Initial tournaments may see limited Train gameplay
- Teams that previously banned Vertigo may adapt their veto strategies
- Valve continues to implement improvements based on competitive feedback
Contrary to some claims, this isn't the worst map pool in Counter-Strike history. With 6 out of 7 maps providing solid competitive gameplay, and Valve's commitment to continuous improvement, the foundation remains strong for competitive CS2 in 2025.
